TOTALF-INGNERDTALES CONTINUED [06 Nov 2009|07:36pm]

Thanks to the near-overnight nature of Japanese domestic mail, I am the proud owner of the JP Star Trek Bluray, the DVD, and a cool little model of the ship made to hold the DVDs. Score. :D

The DVD is being donated to my ESS club so the girls can drool with me, but the ship is MINE.

Off to Matt's for dinner!

so, i'm considering applying for UCLA's doctoral program in Applied Linguistics. I've got LOTS of things I'm considering (including psychology and more abroadness). I need to talk to my professor about this program though because I'm sure her endorsement would be my best bet of getting in. Application deadline for it is in 5 weeks, but luckily they don't require a GRE score. I just need to write a lot about myself and get three letters of recommendation. UCLA is only 78 minutes away with good traffic according to Mapquest, so it'd be like most of my other schooling as far as commute goes. And I had been under the impression that they were uber expensive, but it turns out that they're about the same as UCR (at least for graduate study). Hmm......

Anyway, I go to visit Kristen in four hours. I have 4 bits of crochet I want to do (would take about an hour) and then I'm gonna try to do two discussion boards before I go to Kristen's. Not a lot of work, but enough.

If I work tomorrow, I want to get through the last two chapters of my 605 book, but if not, I want to do my research report and Instructional Plan C.

Saturday is the teacher training workshop at UCR from 8-4 with free breakfast and lunch~ We're getting paid "only" $20/hour. I love education at times. Hopefully while I'm there I can find out a bit more of what I will actually be doing from here on out and if I am definitely in for the full time post in Muscoy.

Okay, lunch is done! Time to crochet and school work!

Cosplay bunnies running through my head...

Ever since I saw Zach's post about doing the Pokemon Gijinka cosplay, I've been wanting to cosplay so many of them! I chose Celebi, and will do my own version of it (based on the fact that I thought it was white with a gradient into light green, as shown in the gallery of all em!), but there's a lot more I wanna do!!!!

http://s719.photobucket.com/albums/ww195/PokemonGijinkaCosplay/?start=0 <---link to the pics

I want to do all of these (from those designs):
Raichu
Abra
Jolteon
Natu
Xatu
Politoed
Sunkern
Corsela
Wurmple
Beautify
Breloom
Numel
Cacturn
Claydol
Lileep (if only for the hair!)
Anorith
Kricketune
Finneon (I really really love this one)
Lumineon
Magnezone
Leafeon

....well, anyway, obviously I won't be making them all. I have not the money nor the time (or places to wear them to!). But it would be cool to do a good amount of them!!!!

My favoritist evar teacher that I used to work with until the fucking Kyoto BOE transferred him came by to visit! Totally spent like 15 minutes jabbering about the new ST movie and fan service (when you can talk to a Japanese person in Japan who talks about the fanservice in a ST movie and can list examples (we talked about Pike and both Spocks, among other things,) you know he's a fucking nerd. It's AWESOME.)

I decided half of what I had on there was good enough. I've been exhausted these past couple days :/ Anyway, I think I did well on the midterm, but I don't know. Out of 50 points I have 61? That doesn't seem right! So I don't know if it's weighted or anything. So, I'll see when he puts something up as a review.

Anyway, for the rest of the quarter I don't have too much more to go. Even though no one on here knows these assignments, this is what I have left to do:

EESL 501
*Teacher Interview
*Chapter Blogs (halfway done, I need to respond to peoples' once they have them up)
*Instructional Plan
*Strategy Set (wtf is this??)

EESL 521
*Research Report
*Software Evaluations
*You-Tube video
*WebQuest

EDUC 605
*Discussion board 6, 7, and 8
*Read chapters 6, 7, and 8
*Do Inviting School Survey paper

EESL 670
*Instructional Plan C, D and E
*Myself as a Learner
*Service Learning Log (to be done when I finish it at CATESOL on the 21st)

So, not too much, but I hate it. Anyway, time to read and crochet?

The sub system has been really bad since they did upgrades this weekend, so no calls/jobs going out. I get called by individual schools each morning asking for me, but I'm dead to the world. Tomorrow I won't work either cuz I'm going to Cabazon with mom. Maybe I'll work Thursday and Friday ^^; I need to work more! But no drive...

Today's Tasks [03 Nov 2009|02:00pm]

miffykeika
Today I pretty much have to myself, so let's see....

Do laundry
Instructional Plan B

Instructional Plan C
Research Report
Midterm (6;30-7:30)
Possibly read Chapter 6 of text
Quiz for 501

Looks like a lot, but it's really not if I just focus. Problem is, I'd rather talk about doing it and make lists regarding doing it than actually doing it ^^;

In other news, it's rainy, windy, and cold here! WOOOOT! <--this is not sarcastic, I love this kind of weather as long as I don't have to go out into it.

It's National Culture Day here in Japan, so I am not setting my alarm. Time for bed! :D

I hate when I find my writing/drawing grooves late on Sunday nights. I have to be up in 6 hours for work. >:|

I am pleased that I appear to have relocated said groove, however, and am finally seeing the light at the end of this story's tunnel. It's at about 24,000 words, I'm guessing I'll wrap it up between 25k and 26k. Good bloody grief. I'm sorry, [info]welovethelegend , your brain is probably going to implode after reading the obscene amount of run-ons and comma splices in this beast, let alone from the utter mooshiness.

ARG.

Bedtime nao.

Network Maintenance - Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 04:00-05:00 GMT/UTC [30 Oct 2009|05:17pm]

lj_maintenance

[dwell]
EDIT: If you're reading this, our maintenance is OVER! The problem was not found on our equipment, which means we'll have to work with our ISP to fix this small problem -- which also means another maintenance window in the future -- but at least we have eliminated our side.

Thank you everyone, and a special shout out to [info]rekoil for giving me a great suggestion AND also the opportunity to feel like I've just called in to a local radio station.

Have a great day, night or afternoon wherever you may be.

---

Hi everyone, sorry for the late notice but I'm going to have to do some testing on 1 of our 4 internet circuits TONIGHT; Friday night or Saturday morning depending on which time zone you're in.

Most of us shouldn't notice any impact, though there may be some slowness or lag when I switch traffic on to our other ISP circuits and then another hit when I stop the tests. If a page won't load or times out, try hitting refresh 1 or 2 times and it should load then. If it doesn't work at all... trust me, I'll be typing really really really fast to try to undo whatever I just did. Hopefully you'll have some Halloween candy (if you're in the USA and celebrate that kind of thing) nearby to take away the bitterness of a small site outage. :(

Here's the handy-dandy Website That I Always Use to get a feel for when the maintenance will start in your area. Our site traffic historically dips on Friday afternoons until Saturday morning which is why we tend to pick this time for maintenance work.

tech details )

status.livejournal.org will, of course be updated before and after the maintenance window. Or else [info]marta will get mad at me. :D

Anyone wanna recommend me some animes? My anime dealer has been in Kyoto for the past year, so I'm behind on the times. As a result, all my cosplay plans are of older stuff and I'd really like to have something contemporary!

meh [28 Oct 2009|10:42pm]

miffykeika
So my three-day assignment for Monika turned into one. oh well, I'm super tired, so this is a relief. Also, my plans with Autumn to go horseback riding have been postponed.

So, what do I have on my plate for tomorrow? Well, I want to work a bit on my mom's blanket and also do homework (of course!). For homework, I want to get a start (or finish?) on these things:

for 501 - Arrange an appointment for my next interview and finish typing up the chapter blogs (just one more to go).

for 521 - Podcast 2, PowerPoint, Discussion board 5, and quiz

for 605 - Nothing now - gonna hold off on this class till I do the midterm on Tuesday

for 670 - Instructional Plan A

All before Halloween. Doable, totally. Probably even all doable tomorrow if I stay on task. that will put me up to Week 7!

Now time to go to bed.

Grad School Woes [26 Oct 2009|11:15pm]

miffykeika
How do I get through this program with it's difficult assignments?

Two weeks ago, we had to demonstrate competence in our new skill of copying and pasting text and pictures into Word.

Today, we had to make paper flowers.

::shakes head:: How can I make it? Will I ever get my degree with such impossible tasks set upon me???

In other news, this week will be rather busy.

Tomorrow I have to go to the high school and learn how to be Monika. Then I will take my car into the dealer for the maintenance. Then visit Rock. Then I think I'm gonna swoop over to my parents' to pick up my old power strip. Then I have to give a presentation about my philosophy of education. I have no clue how I'm presenting this, but I have a 7-page paper to reference.

Wednesday I have to be Monika from 7:30-2:30, then talk to Dr. Lynne about my program plan (that ought to be TONS of fun), and then have dinner/mother-daughter time with mom.

Thursday I have to be Monika from 7:30-3:00, then go to Autumn's to hopefully ride her horse. I can't remember if that's the day we eat out with Amy or if that's next week...

And Friday is my usual business, but with being Monika from 7:30-2:30 again.

Saturday of course is Halloween, so I'll probably be prepping stuff early in the day and then going to the party at night.

Do I have anything planned Sunday yet? Other than movie night? I sure hope not :/

Okay, it's shower time!
